Speedyrails provides the ability to create backups of your virtual servers' disk images. These backups allow you to restore lost data, or to create new templates to use when creating new virtual servers.
Create a Backup
You can create a manual backup of your disks' contents at any time. Manual backups allow you to easily capture a production or development version of your server's configuration and contents.
To create a new manual backup:
- From the Cloud Manager, click Services > Servers.
- Click the name of the desired server.
- Under the Disks section click Tools > Create Backup next to the disk you wish to back up.
- In the Create a Backup section, fill in the Note field.
- Click Take a Backup.
Your disk will back up immediately, and will show as Built in the Status column once the backup finishes.
View disk backups
You can view your disk backups on the Backups section of each servers' page.
To view backups created by a specific disk:
- From the Cloud Manager, click Services > Servers.
- Click the name of the desired server.
- Scroll down to Backups.
Restore a backup
- From the Cloud Manager, click Services > Servers.
- Click the name of the desired server.
- On the Backup menu, click Images.
- Click Tools > Restore inline with the backup you want to restore.
Create a new template from a backup
Templates generated from backups can help you easily deploy new virtual servers with the same configuration as another virtual server.
- From the Cloud Manager, click Services > Servers.
- Click the name of the desired server.
- Under the Backups menu, click Tools > Convert to template on backup you want to convert.
- Fill in the Label, Min memory size, and Min disk size for the template.
- Click Convert Backup.
Delete Backups
- From the Cloud Manager, click Services > Servers.
- Click the name of the desired server.
- Under Backup menu, click Tools > Delete inline with the backup you want to delete.
